- Linea Aspera were a dark wave-minimal wave band formed in London, England that were active from 2011 to 2013. A musical duo, they were fronted by vocalist Alison Lewis, with Ryan Ambridge on synthesizers; Lewis wrote the lyrics while Ambridge wrote the electronics, as well as mixing and producing the recordings.
Founded in November 2011, Linea Aspera were influenced by electronic bands from the 1980s. A reviewer reporting on a gig in January 2012 noted that their music sounded "very 80s", and that they had "sprung fully-formed" from the musical underground of East London.That month self-releasing an extended play cassette, titled Linea Aspera EP, it was described by the Burning Flame website as number one in their Top 20 EPs of 2012.
Signing to Dark Entries Records, the band's first album, Linea Aspera LP, was released on 25 September 2012. Brought out digitally and on vinyl by Dark Entries, a CD release was produced by the German company Genetic Records.Each LP was contained in a jacket sleeve designed by Dovile Shurpo and accompanied by an insert listing their song lyrics.

49 yrs old, another 80s kid here. This is my favourite track by them,but the whole self titled album is good. They call this style darkwave now. There is a ton of great newer bands doing retro 80s styles from synth -electronica to synth punk and punk rock etc now. RUclips has the most and best selection I think. Spotify is more corporate based and driven. RUclips is more community driven ,aka lots more diverse music shared with lots more selection.

Where is the link to Lautreamont here? I thought it was about Lamanai as in the Mayan City, and "born of the undertow" was about the name of the city meaning "submerged"?

If you read the book "Les Chants de Maldoror" of Lautreamont you will find a story that relates to the situation described in the lyrics. It is just another inspiration like the name of the track "lamanai" and as you describe the mayan city.
