Yes I agree, I don't excuse the crimes that landed them there. Some are truly horrific. But people are capable of change and remorse. But treating them like animals, dehumanizing them and making sure they're miserable at all times does nothing for rehabilitation. The warden made a lovely point, some may think this is "too nice" but at the end of the day their reality is that they are still incarcerated. They can't just get up and go, they can't go and see their families or have them drop by whenever just to hang out, they don't get to go try a new restaurant or see a movie or any of those small pleasures that we take for granted each day. They are not miserable, sure. But they're also not really spoiled if we remember this.
@lexilion16 Right On! I told UK Folks about these type of Prisons and they are called Camp Cupcake. A Prison like this one is called Open. For some this is the closest thing to a Family that some never had.
Precious. What is being afforded to their victims? I don't think prisoners should be abused, victimized, neglected, or treated poorly. But I also don't think making prison 'pretty' (as the warden stated) for people on life sentences is beneficial to anyone but the warden and the prisoners. It doesn't help their victims or society at all.
The warden is very wise and a humanitarian. First prison documentary I have watched where no to very low violence. The animals allowed is awesome. They give unconditional love.
I think it also gives them someone else to live for, and a reason to control their behavior no matter how frustrated or triggered they feel. That's a privilege a lot of people would never want to risk losing.

Ruthann Veal (the one who was 14 when she was sentenced to life) was actually granted parole and released at age 42. She was then sent back to prison for violating the conditions of her parole. While wearing her ankle monitor, she went to several bars and casinos, which she was not permitted to do while on parole. As far as I can see, she is still in prison.
She said she didn't "end him" (sorry youtube rules), yet proceeded to describe exactly what she did that directly led to his death. Yet still thinks she didn't cause it. August 2020: "Gov. Kim. Reynolds - who has never commuted the sentence of a prisoner serving life behind bars - passed again this month on a chance to do so for a 74-year-old woman who had a groundswell of support for her request. Three past or present wardens at Mitchellville prison, Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller and about 60 others wrote Iowa's parole board supporting the commutation request.
Judy did not get her sentence commuted. The board voted 4-1. Since it wasn't unanimous, it went to the Governor of Iowa and she vetoed it. She'll be able to appeal again in 2030, when she's 84 years old

I am so happy these women has this warden on site. She is a clever and caring woman. She sees them.
Cheyenne deserves all backlash she receives-absolutely despicable what she did!
Cheyanne just a unfortunate girl, she does no desere his terrible suffering in prison .
Agree... right up there with the one that went on vacation for 10 days n left her 16 mo old infant all alone the whole time
@@attilafry her crime is horrific, it goes far deeper than her just being unfortunate
@@VictoriaDxz Despite all this, maybe needs approach her with the intention of helping her and resocializing her.
The details of what cheyenne harris did are HORRIFIC.
Cheyenne Harris, should never get out, and except that every beating she gets it’s nothing compare to how that little angel suffered the little time on earth, by someone who was supposed to love him and protect him. I don’t care how old she ever gets, I wouldn’t like her either.
Horrific isn’t even the right word to describe what they did to him.
She doesn’t seem to have empathy for what she did or fully process the suffering she put her child through.
@@bekahiam1yeah, her smirking through her trial and smiling and acting unbothered was so disturbing
@@bekahiam1 Definitely agree with you.
I'm familiar with Cheyenne Harris and what she did. It was absolutely horrific! I feel nothing but disgust for that woman. I hope she's miserable for the rest of her life.
Agreed!
Seems like she goes looking for trouble. The "what are you looking at?" to passerby in the hallway, told a lot about her.
This Warden is so inspiring, kind but no fool.
It's so scared to think of spending your life in prison as a lifer.Just looking at this makes me feel like I can't breathe
Just watch this program and I have to say. What a great job.
I just read on Cheyenne Harris and you've got to be some kind of evil to do that to a helpless baby!!! May she and her man rot in prison the rest of their lives!!!! She's going to have many more problems because of her case.
Wow the story is amazing, thank you so much for that. This has to be the best prison director ever!!!
Thank you for another intriguing, insightful documentary. 👏
I love her terminology "relationship driven"
I think you are during the right thing. You treat those women as human beings, with starting where they are at. By not trying to be in control. That's why your facility runs so well.
Miss Stacey I hope you will do another video like this.. I'm glad she did get to get out.
What a neat and peaceful set up,you can see the Love,💜
Excellent documentary and the Warden appears compassionate, whilst making sure expectations are met and understood.
One of the best documentaries I've ever watched. I love the honest questions. I truly enjoy how without being hateful or callous she is able to questions no one else will. The facility is unlike anything I have ever seen. The warden has a chance to really change how these women look at the world and how they handle the problems that arise. But Barbra honey the jig is up girl!!!
That baby was in his mechanical swing for an estimated 9 - 14 days. Absolutely horrible way for him to die ☹
Sad these women have to make the best of this and the only way they can is keeping busy and knowing that this is the life they will be living
They are human sad and some are so intelligent
The woman that killed her son deserves to be in hard time prison 18:59
Exactly
Excellent documentary and respect to such an amazing warden!! Thanks for the updates on many cases!!!
Thanks for sharing the life of this woman , and I do belive some people can change
Your documentary on incarcerated women was so interesting. I enjoyed it and hope you do more. I’m retired and my life has stopped and I feel like I’m in prison myself. I’m very alone and rarely see anyone. Being an elderly person is like being in prison.
Why don't you work with underprivileged people? That will give you the human company you need.
You have to get out and about. Maybe there are senior centers near you that have activities. You can also volunteer.. do you have a hobby you enjoy that you can find other people that also enjoy it? It’s up to you to start making an effort.
@@wisepati123Or you can seek Night Classes , where you can meet like minded people. My mum retired and studied Cake decorating and Flower arranging, which she loved. She also went, weekly, to a Senior Citizens Group. She was a very shy person, but she did make friends. She did make the effort to leave her house, even though it was difficult at first.
Maybe volunteer at an animal shelter
The struggle is real. I totally understand. You deserve help and support.
I love this Warden’s approach to running the prison. This documentary was great!
So glad Judy got out!
What a shame . She had a second chance
So the warden was right
Elle a gaché sa seconde chance, tant pis pour elle
They let her back out. I love Ruthann❤
@@koldlilchoppa5716Recently? I see that as of August 2024 she’s on work release.
Judy got dealt a raw deal.
I immediately knew who Cheyenne was, Sterlings mom. The baby ate by maggots in his swing.
She said she didn't "end him" (sorry youtube rules), yet proceeded to describe exactly what she did that directly led to his death. Yet still thinks she didn't cause it. By leaving a baby to fend for itself for days (most likely longer due to the maggots).
She deserves every bit of bs she has to deal with in there.
I am a foster mom so when i hear these stories it makes me feel ill.......Sometimes mom's don't want their kids anymore and even if she had dropped him at a hospital or police station and run off they would just call CPS and the mom would be in far less trouble......Of course CPS will try and track down the mom but she doesn't have to answer her mobile......even if she left the child and childcare and not returned, even then. they just call CPS and the child is put in foster care......abandoning a child like that is horrendous.
@@karenmbbaxter Agreed. And thank you for what you do as a foster parent. I plan to be one eventually
first thing i knew as soon as she said " Swing"

Some of these women are probably better off inside this prison than they are outside in the cruel real world.💕💜
wow 👍 this was a great documentary - i hope we get to see a follow up in like a year
The happier the inmates are the safer the guards are. I understand BUT I also understand the victims families!!
no that's not modern
Barbara making her husband the victim look like the bad person is just classic! You set yourself up lady!!
I glad judy got a chance to go home after 40 years
Prisoners are human beings and should be treated with respect. They can't recover if they are treated bad. After all they aren't leaving. Pets are great!
Insight is everything and you can apply it to your life whether you're inside or out!!!
Reynolds loves her power.
May she never find herself in a bad spot. She might end up in prison.
Run a red light, " by mistake", anything can happen.
Very sad 😢
@@cinder7183
What was the woman convicted of?
@cinder7183 well said 👏
Judy did not get her sentence commuted. The board voted 4-1. Since it wasn't unanimous, it went to the Governor of Iowa and she vetoed it. She'll be able to appeal again in 2030, when she's 84 years old
sad
Barbara totally did it. She looked away when she said no. Plus her tears sounded like crocodile tears
A great report. Ty.
Harris prefers the SEG cells for a REASON and I’m loving it
She is certainly one person who should never get out. I hope it won't ever happen. Her crime is horrible, there is no excuse for that. Not even addiction. I know, I used to be a benzo addict. She is a cold hearted murderer.
@@saintsinner7565 that’s your opinion, but definitly not mine.

This warden is such a beautiful soul
I do love the jsils that allow thr work with dogs needing homes it helps the peoples morals and the dogs are set up for success ..
I think those who are abusive and would improve with a pet, should have one....I saw a prison where death row inmates have cats and they really care for them. They use their money for cat clothes and treats...

Agreed. I honestly think I could do life in prison if I were able to have a dog.
It is wonderful to see these women treated like they are human beings. Yes, they committed awful crimes but they are locked up and serving the sentence the courts felt was appropriate. One can look at more "traditional" prisons and see that their way of doing things is not working. This Warden should be commended, and copied, for thinking outside of the box.
So what do you think of innocent animals being treated badly?
Cheyanne Harris is pure evil
🤞
Shes just a unfortunate woman , her life is lovable.
She hasn’t grown up yet
@@terriebuys4052 facts 💯
Barbara absolutely did do it! Her eyes were so shifty
Having empathy for killers is a crazy work.

I watched that girl's trial. What a horrific death that baby died. So sad.

Well done program.
All prisons should have a warden like this!!!

Life in prison and what that entails mentally is fascinating.
I LIKE this Warden. Yes they all committed a crime, serious crimes. But they are human beings and should be treated as human beings.
